Perfect Spring Loafers

1:41 AM

You probably have already received a bajillion number of emails about the Nordstrom winter sale this weekend. Instead of getting a pair of boots that you will probably wear only 2 more weeks this year, and won't be able to touch them again until next winter, how about prepping your feet for the Spring?

I bought these loafers last year, and was really excited to find out they are now 40% off for all colors! I had a really hard time debating which color to get at that time. Part of me loved the navy as it would go well with most of my darker color outfits, especially the denims; but part of me also really liked how burgundy and my skin color blended well. Now take a guess, which pair I ended up getting? :)

Valentine's Day - Knits Not Dress

7:37 AM

If you are following the New York Fashion Week 2017 this week, you already know pink is ruling the stages and it will continue to be a popular trend for Spring/Summer this year. It no longer associates the color with just girlishness. According to Laura Vinroot Poole, the founder of boutique Capitol in Charlotte, N.C. and is known for both stocking and wearing pink, “To wear pink, you have to be an interesting and smart person,” she said. “You have to have things to say. In pink, you can’t hide.”

Unfortunately Valentine's Day always falls in the coldest month of the year. For those of you who are hesitant about wearing a short pink dress on a 30 degree evening, pink sweater or cardigan is always a great alternative. Why not saving that beautiful pink dress for a date in the Summer when you can dress with more comfort (and of course, more confidence too!)

I got this pastel pink cardigan from Zara last year. The $22 cardigan is so soft that I went back to get another one in a different color after. The interesting thing is, one time a friend was visiting me and she didn't realize how chilly the Summer could get here in Seattle. So she went to the Zara by her hotel and bought the exact same cardigan in grey before meeting up with me. We have been calling each other twins since we knew each other because we have the same birthday. All the photos we took that day we end up looking just like real twins!

I tend to go for a bag that can creates a strong contrast with my outfit, hence this yellow Coach Swagger 20 in Pebble Leather. I am a fan of the Coach Swagger line because 1) the box shape will prevent them from sagging, yet not too rigid and boring, and 2) it has just the right amount of buckles and straps on them, not too much, not too little.

If cardigan, or pastel pink isn't your thing, I have also shared a post about 7 ways to style a bright pink sweater with J.Crew's Tippi Sweater (this one is so cute and also works too) two years ago. Check it out and let me know which one is your favorite!

Blanket Scarf in Two-Ways

11:48 PM

I went on a Europe trip this winter. To make this "5 cities in 2.5 weeks" trip a budgeted one, I have chosen a budgeted airline - Ryan Air. It was not an easy decision to be honest, because of the strict luggage rule they have: one 55 x 40 x 20cm (21.65 x 15.74 x 7.87 inches) carry-on plus a purse for each passenger. After lots of research and planning, I packed 2.5 weeks worth of clothes into this Delsey spinner and my Longchamp Le Pliage Large tote

When picking out my outfits for 2.5 weeks, I only packed items that could be styled in more than one way. I was traveling from the colder cities like Paris, Berlin and London, to the warmer ones - Rome and Barcelona. What will be suitable for both a 60-degree sunny day and a 30-degree chilly evening? A blanket scarf! It was definitely the first piece of clothing I added to my packing list.

This blanket scarf/stole from Uniqlo is super soft and warm. It comes with 6 different color combos, and can be worn in both sides. I bought the burgundy + navy one as I thought the two colors would go well with most of my winter coats. Eventually, I was able to wear it 4 different ways: burgundy as a normal scarf, burgundy as a cape, navy as a normal scarf and navy as a cape

As a cape in Rome (definitely one of my favorite cities to travel to in Europe!):

Currently ON SALE - Uniqlo 2-Way Stole, Madewell Hollis Boot

And as a scarf in London:

Winter in the Pacific Northwest

11:01 PM

It has been one of the coldest winters in the Pacific Northwest this year. When I lived in the east coast, we barely had any snow before January. But this year, the first snowfall arrived in early December. We not only had a white Christmas (although a very thin layer in the downtown area), but also a white New Year's Eve. The best part about living in Seattle is that, with a short 30-minute drive, you are already in a winter wonderland.

I was finally able to take out some of my thickest outerwear this year. This Burberry quilt jacket is my winter favorite this year. Its thinness can be deceiving at first, but I was very surprised by how warm this jacket is. The lightweight material makes it really nice to be walking outdoor for a very long time. In the past, I preferred wearing thick wool winter coats to keep myself warm (and stylish...of course!). But I didn't realize how heavy they are until I had to wear them and walk for 10+ hours a day! Despite they look good in photos, my back actually hurt. Alright, alright, I will save that story for my next post about my trip to Europe this winter.

And last, but not least... my official shot for the Jeep Cherokee 2018 model. ;)

Christmas Tree Picking

1:05 AM

Living in the Evergreen state, Washington, I knew I had to hand pick a Christmas tree this year. I stopped by the beautiful McMurtrey's Red-Wood Christmas Tree farm 30-minutes away from Seattle over the weekend. Trekking through the farm with my sawblade in hand, it took me a while to spot this fine tree. It’s not so big that I needed a delivery team to get it to my tiny downtown apartment, but big enough that I had a nice tree to decorate. The trunk of the tree was surprisingly soft, so chopping it was no problem. After one final shakedown to remove the debris, I was off home with this fresh-cut Christmas tree!

Wearing this short J.Crew Stadium-Cloth Majestic Peacoat was super convenient for me to walk in the farm and bend down to cut the tree too. All of J.Crew's Majestic Peacoat are on sale now with an additional 30% off. I've always had a thing with shorter coats in the winter (therefore having warm pants are very important!). I was pretty happy to add such a "cheerful" color to my short coats collection this year. Below are some of my winter short coat favorites:

J.Crew Icon Trench Coat in Wool Cashmere

8:06 PM

How was everyone’s Thanksgiving? This was my first Thanksgiving in Seattle and I felt really thankful that I had the opportunity to move to the Pacific Northwest and experience the new adventure here. I am also thankful for all the people who have helped and supported me to make this move happen.

My trek across the country plus my newer yet smaller Seattle studio made me realize that I need to tidy things up. I was in sort of a rush when I moved, so I let the movers pack up all my belongings from my home in the East Coast without cleaning up. As a result, the post-move mess put a damper on my Black Friday shopping this year... However, I did get a new J.Crew trench coat recently that I’d like to share with those of you who still have room in your closet. There are many promotions going on with J.Crew during the holiday season. Follow my Instagram account (@heyjuliary) and my blog for more sales alerts. There’s no better time than now to get their coats (that are never really on sale, even after winter is over!).

When I first received this wool trench coat, I thought the material was a bit too crisp. But after a short break in period, it started to soften up. My favorite parts of the coat are its design details and silhouette - you can easily look like a Burberry model wearing this coat. If you order online, I have to say J.Crew’s coats are usually true to size - I have been consistently ordering size 2 over the years in different styles. Trench coats are the kind of pieces that never go out of style. If you do not already have one, it is time to invest in one this winter!

Here are some alternatives that are also worth checking out while the holiday big sales are on:
